Background of Speakers

Prof. Kevin Au: Kevin co-founded the CUHK Center for Entrepreneurship and serves as the current Director. He is also Director of the Centre for Family Business and Pi Centre. His research interests are international management, entrepreneurship, family business, and social network. He has published dozens of academic articles, teaching cases, and book chapters, and served on the editorial boards of several academic journals. He has provided consulting and training for the government and business corporations. His clients include the Central Policy Unit, Hong Kong Cyberport, and a number of business startups and family businesses in Hong Kong.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Dominic Chan:  Dominic founded Decisive Consulting Limited, a management consulting firm, and co-founded Dark Horse Investment that focuses on early stage technology investment.  Worked as a consultant with the global consulting firm McKinsey & Company, Dominic was also the former co-CEO of a-connect (China), a professional consulting staffing firm and China general manager of Englishtown.com (an EF Group company) providing online language training service.  As a serial entrepreneur, he has been involved in technology companies in the Digital Signal Processing (DSP) application, integrated communication, mobile device applications, e-commerce solution and e-learning areas.

 

 

 

Miss Wendy Chan: Wendy is the Head of Product Marketing of PassKit, an O2O SaaS company that specializes in mobile wallet and proximity services. As the Head of Product Marketing, Wendy works closely with the sales and engineering teams to drive product awareness, accelerate user adoption, and enhance existing solutions. Her expertise lies in product marketing and digital marketing, and is passionate about growth hacking, technology, and startups.

 

 

 

Mr. Jonathan Chee: Jonathan is the Centre Manger of Pi Centre and Project Director in Centre for Entrepreneurship, CUHK. He is also a Non-Executive Director on the Board of the Hong Kong Business Angel Network.  He is a Member of the Assessment Panel of the Enterprise Support Scheme (ESS) of the Hong Kong SAR Government. Member of the Assessment Panel for HKSTP, Incu  App programme.
He has over 28 years of experience in private equity, M&A, investment management, corporate finance and PE operations in USA and Asia, formerly member of the Investment Committees in Shenzhen Capital Group and Standard Chartered Bank Private Equity Pte Limited. Invested in over 200 companies in USA, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Hong Kong and China. He was an active Director on the Boards of Companies and the funds he managed after investment. Formerly, he was the Chief Investment Officer, Eagle Ride Investment Holding Limited (0901.HK), prior to that; he was the Founding General Manager of Tangshan (Shenzhen) Investment Pte Limited.  He has held senior investment positions in various firms including Huawei (Head of PE/VC Investments), Shenzhen Capital Group (General Manager) and Standard Chartered Bank (Managing Director of Private Equity). His investee companies have been listed in Singapore, Korea, USA, Hong Kong and China. He graduated with a B.Sc in Physics from the National University of Singapore and obtained his M.Sc in Communications Engineering from the University of Bradford, UK.

 

 

 

Mr. Dennis Cheung: Dennis has got over 16 years’ solid working experience in ebusiness development, internet marketing, advertising and general management. He is the founder of ShowMuse, which is a “Pan Education” & a mobile-based learning platform that revolutionizes the way of knowledge sharing. Fr 2008 – 2012, he helped Goyeah.com to formulate online strategies, artists’ co-op. negotiation, as well as, setup a working system for a flawless execution between HK & BJ team. Before that, he was the founder of BJ CasterTroy Online Advertising Agency, he was responsible for formulating marketing strategies for clients, and responsible for clients acquisition, includes, SonyEricsson, Lining, Nokia, Canon, Yahoo China, Lenovo, BMW. He has started working in Beijing since Year 2000, he was the product Director of Top Result Media Limited (which was acquired by JC Decaux), and was responsible for the platform development of Outdoormachine.com

 

 

 

Mr. Kwok-Yiu Leung: KY is the Associate Director in the Centre for Innovation and Technology and the Steering committee member of Pi Centre. He is responsible to promote and facilitate technology transfer operations for the Faculty of Engineering. He serves in the areas of industrial liaison, student placement, sponsored applied R&D, commercialization of research results, and incubation of university spin-offs. Before K.Y. joined CUHK in 2001, he had involved in the development of 2 new ventures from scratch. In the 80’s, he was the deputy who co-founded a computer product division within International Quartz Limited, a local telephone manufacturer. In the 90’s, he was the deputy co-founding Telecom Technology Centre Company Limited, a spin-off from Hong Kong Productivity Council. At CUHK, K.Y. contributed to successful establishment of a number of start-ups, such as Zensis Limited, Sengital Limited, Colisa Limited, and TranXcode Technologies Limited.

 

 

 

Prof. Bernard Suen: Bernard has worked in the ICT and Creative industries for over twenty years with domestic, PRC, and international consulting and management experiences. In 2010, he co-founded InTechnigence Limited, an E-Learning and E-Business service provider based in Hong Kong. Currently, he is an adjunct assistant professor of management at CUHK Business School, project director of CUHK Center for Entrepreneurship and director of the Creativity Lab of Wu Yee Sun College, CUHK. He is the author of the “Eight Lessons in Entrepreneurship for Design and Creative Business” (2013) published by ET Press and co-author of the “The Heart’s Way --- Design with Empathy Through Creative Thinking“ (2014) published by the Hong Kong Design Institute.

 

 

 

Ms. Elsie Tsui: Elsie Tsui has extensive experience as both a corporate executive and a management consultant. Prior to setting up her consulting business, she has worked for the Asia office of !What If? Innovation Partner, a leading innovation consultancy, based in Shanghai. Specialising in innovation management, innovation capability building and organisation transformation, she has led many high impact training and workshops for the leaders from Fortune 500 companies across Europe and Asia. She has also adopted business innovation methodology to support social innovation in the non-profit sector. Before starting her consulting career, Elsie has worked for Coca-Cola China for 8 years. As the deputy head of the Public Affairs & Communications function, Elsie has led a cross-regional team of 14 people, covering Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland China. She was also instrumental in setting up an in-house training and mentoring project called the PAC Institute for her team and the business partners. With the passion in teaching, Elsie used to teach the Innovation and Change Management module, a part of post-graduate diploma programme for the Institute of China Business, Hong Kong University SPACE.

 

 

 

Sr Paul Tsui: Sr Paul Tsui is the Managing Director of Esri China (Hong Kong) Limited.  Esri is the world leader of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and mapping software.  He is responsible for the general management and operations of the Hong Kong office of the company.  Prior to joining Esri, he worked in Ordnance Survey, the national mapping agency of the United Kingdom, and led a GIS system development team in re-engineering the National Topographic Database of the United Kingdom in order to raise the quality and usability of the data.  As a senior practitioner in the industry, Paul has been appointed as the Sector Specialist in the Information and Communications Technology Sector by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications from 2006 to 2012.  He has also been appointed as the Chairman of the Department of Geography Advisory Committee of Hong Kong Baptist University since 2013.  As a professional, Paul is also a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors and a Registered Professional Surveyor (Land Surveying) in Hong Kong.  In the academic and research aspect, Paul has also participated in many GIS research projects on spatial data modeling and spatial analysis. Paul is the author and co-author of many GIS research papers published in authoritative international refereed journals and conference proceedings.  He also won the 1998 Best Paper Award held by the International Association of Chinese Professionals in Geographic Information Science (CPGIS).  Paul holds a degree of Master of Philosophy in GIS.

 

 

 

R-Guardian: R-Guardian is a CUHK student start-up team that graduated from Pi Centre. To deal with the problem of losing personal belongings, R-Guardian introduces an Anti-loss device provides an innovative and reliable idea to secure and monitor things people brought out. It traces the targets by specializing into different forms according to the desired items, for example, to secure your bag and keys, the target would be in the form of key chain, a card form would be more suitable in case of keep-tracing your wallet.
